Hi, You have reached the homepage for Mr. Shumate's First Grade. Mt. Zion is a small town near Decatur, Illinois. Our school is one of three elementary buildings in our district. Mr. Shumate is in his second year of teaching. Last year he taught Kindergarten. Mr. Shumate is also involved in coaching High School Football, Girls Basketball, and Jr. High Boys Track. Mr. Shumate really enjoys working with kids. There are 23 students in our class. They are all listed below. We hope that you enjoy our class web page.

Upcoming Events

This area will be periodically updated to show events happening in our school and in our room.
-Starting in March, Our class will be studying the Iditarod. This is a sled dog race in Alaska. The Iditarod is in full swing right now. Click on the link below to see how the race is going. The mushers and their teams are enjoying a great race. In our class, each student has each picked a musher and team. We are keeping track of the race very closely. We will also be celebrating St. Patrick's Day.
-In April, we will have the 1st, 2nd, and 5th off for Easter and Spring Break.
